I taught Lichen how to shake today. It took 5 minutes. Amazing. I tried to teach our previous dog, Pavlov, to shake for 2 years and it never caught on. I don't think it was because Pavlov was dumb, I just think he had a lack of desire to perform tricks.
This new trick is added to his growing list of commands: sit, lie down, off (as in get OFF the couch, get OFF me, get OFF Helix) and easy (given before the sharp tug on his leash when he starts to pull). I would say training is going well. We are working on "stay" and plan to teach him to "heel" and to formally "retrieve" (he will chase a frisbee or ball but brings it back inconsistently) soon.
